BUNNY'S CRAFT BEER
An almost all Midwest craft beer list. MN just makes too much good beer now & Chimay is just too good to leave out.
SOUR BEERS
1. Fair State’s Roselle Sour
(NE Minneapolis, 5.7 ABV, 12oz can) 6.75
Nice refreshing Hibiscus sour ale from the original Co-op brewery in MN. Pours a slight pink with little head forming, not as sour as many others of the style due to the Hibiscus. This also lends the brew its floral and citrus aromas and flavors, so good for summer.
2. Indeed Lucy Sour Ale
(NE Minneapolis, 4.2 ABV, 12oz can) 6.00
Named after Indeed’s brew master’s daughter Lucy. Light in body with lush tropical fruit notes and a tart, citrusy finish. Brewed with lemongrass, orange peel and passion fruit. This is a great tart session sour ale.
LIGHT & EASY DRINKING
3. Bauhaus Wonderstuff Pilsner
(NE Minneapolis, 5.4 ABV, 12oz can) 5.50
Fantastic family owned brewery in NE Minneapolis that is turning out some great crisp and refreshing brews. Wonderstuff is a great clean beer that gives you the crispness of a pilsner with a touch of hops.
4. Castle Danger Cream Ale
(Two Harbors, 5.3 ABV, 12oz can) 5.50
Solid brew from the little brewery that could up on the North Shore. If you are a fan of Spotted Cow or reminisce about the ol’ Blatz cream ale give this a shot. Clean tasting brew with taste of vanilla, cream with subtle sweetness. Adult cream soda.
5. Fair State Pilsner
(NE Minneapolis, 4.9 ABV, 16oz can) 6.75
Just a killer solid pilsner, dry and crisp with a nice grassy hop aroma from a large addition of German hops. This is what you think of when you think what beer tastes like. Already considered one of the top pilsners in the world according to ratebeer.com.
6. Goose Island 312 Urban Wheat
(Illinois, 4.2 ABV, 16oz can) 4.95
Crisp, bright flavor that is great for a hot day on the patio. Hazy and unfiltered as a good American wheat ale should be, this beer provides flavors of bread, lemon, wheat/grain flavors and a little hop bitterness to round everything out.
7. Summit Dakota Soul
(St. Paul, 4.8 ABV, 12oz bottle) 5.25
If barley is beer’s soul then this beer has one sweet soul. Utilizing Moravian 37 barley from a farm near Rugby, ND owned by the Summit founder’s cousins, produces a clean crisp pilsner with great honey and cracker flavors with that perfect crisp Saaz hop finish.
MILD & MALTY
8. Lake Monster Last Fathom
(St. Paul, 5.5 ABV, 12oz can) 4.95
This delectable dark lager is rich with great depth of malt flavors while still being incredibly light and drinkable. Brewed with Minnesota wild rice, which provides a nice nuttiness. This is a great dark beer if you’re not looking for something as heavy as a stout or porter.
9. Schell’s Firebrick
(New Ulm, 5 ABV, 12oz bottle) 4.95
A mild refreshing brew that is what a red should be, this is the standard in this state. Great toasted specialty malts provide flavors of fresh baked bread, biscuit and a touch of caramel, yet still has the hops to keep it balanced. Won gold in 2014 at the World Beer Cup.
BITTER & HOPPY
10. Ale Asylum Hopalicious
(Madison, WI, 5.7 ABV, 12oz can) 5.50
The number 2 selling craft beer in Wisconsin behind New Glarus’s Spotted Cow. ELEVEN separate additions of Cascade hops give this pale ale huge hop flavor and great citrus aroma without crazy bitterness. See why this beer is so beloved by all of Wisconsin.
11. Bauhaus Sky Five
(NE Minneapolis, 6.7 ABV, 12oz can) 5.50
Generous amounts of late hop additions provide tons of hop flavor without much bitterness in this Midwest IPA (coined by da Bauhaus). Flavors of citrus, passionfruit and spice abound while supported by German and British malt. Great beer from a fun family owned and operated brewery. Do yourself a favor and search their beer commercials on YouTube, hilarious.
12. Bell’s Two Hearted IPA
(Michigan, 7 ABV, 16oz can) 6.25
The IPA that got many of us hooked and still has us on the line for one more. Massive additions of Centennial hops in the brew kettle and fermenter give this brew its signature grapefruit and pine resin aromas.
13. Founder’s All Day IPA
(Michigan, 4.7 ABV, 19.2oz can) 5.75
You did read this correctly; this is a 19.2 oz beer and is the biggest brew in the cooler, all for under 6 bucks. Phenomenal brew that drinks more like a Pale Ale then IPA. Lots of citrusy hops provide the orange, pineapple and pine aromas and flavors.
14. Fulton Batch 300
(Minneapolis, 7 ABV, 12oz bottle) 5.50
What started as a celebration of their 300th batch of beer from their brewery has turned into their newest year around brew. Come and try this brew to find out what all the craze is about. Nice big tropical hop flavors but does not kill the tongue.
15. Lupulin Hooey
(Big Lake, 6.2 ABV, 16oz can) 7.50
One of the juiciest, haziest beers from one of the hottest breweries in the market. Unfiltered IPA goodness with all the citrus, tropical, orange flavored hops that people have come to love. This is an IPA for people that don’t like IPAs due to the bitterness.
DARK & DELICIOUS
16. Beaver Island Sweet Mississippi
(St. Cloud, 6.5 ABV, 12oz can) 5.50
Delicious milk stout from St. Cloud, using the finest ingredients they could source. Sweet Miss is made from British chocolate malts, flaked oats, milk sugar and fair trade cacao nibs from Ecuador, which brings a complexity you don’t find in some other chocolate beers.
17. Bent Paddle Cold Press Black Ale
(Duluth, 6 ABV, 12oz can) 6.75
Utilizing their black ale and infusing it with Duluth Coffee Co. “Crazy Juice” cold press coffee is how this little delight was born. Much easier drinking then most coffee beers due to the fact it is not a stout or a porter.
18. Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter
(Ohio, 5.8 ABV, 12oz bottle) 5.50
Gorgeous dark brew that has great dark rich roasted malt flavors. Taste of chocolate, coffee, and bits of vanilla with a nice hop presence. This complex, toasty porter is one of Gary’s favorite beers.
19. Waconia Chocolate PB Porter
(Waconia, 6.4 ABV, 16oz can) 6.75
One seriously rich Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter without being over the top in any way. Super smooth with some great roasted peanut flavor, this beer finishes dry which helps to cut some of the sweetness from the English chocolate malt.
BEAUTIFUL BELGIANS
20. Boom Island Witness
(NE Minneapolis, 5 ABV, 11oz bottle) 5.50
Super smooth Witbier, from MN only traditional Belgian brewer. It pours a slightly hazy blond color with a very slight tartness to start your tasting experience, followed by a slight lemon and melon taste on the back end. Very refreshing brew.
21. Chimay Blue
(Belgium, 9 ABV, 11oz bottle) 9.95
Incredibly deep and complex this is a big beautiful brew. One of only 7 Trappist breweries in the world, meaning it is produced under the supervision of monks with profits going to different charities. Very full bodied yet smooth. Widely considered one of the best beers in the world. Let this beer warm up slightly in your glass, it is best around 50 degrees which allows all the malt flavors to come out.
22. Lift Bridge Farm Girl Saison
(Stillwater, 6 ABV, 16oz can) 5.50
Brewed in the Belgian Farmhouse tradition, this brew has a dry malt finish with a great spiciness. Very smooth and well rounded; this is one that will please.
